"Well, I guess it's back to the perfume counter for me. Oh, and by the way, there's a name for you ladies, but it isn't used in high society, outside of a kennel." ~ A quote from Joan Crawford's role as Crystal Allen in "The Women."

About the Artist

orlena.jpg

Born in Orange County, California, I have been an artist for over 30 years, and come from a family of artists. Both my parents were familiar with Hollywood. My father actually saw the 1939 premier of "Gone with the Wind" when he was a small boy in Atlanta, Georgia. A few years later he tried out for the role of Jody in &"The Yearling." My mother was from Chicago, Illinois and studied acting at the prestigious Ben Bard's Acting School in New York, and studios in Los Angeles. She also sang at the famous Apollo Theater in Harlem. She was also a professional artist and accomplished writer. I lost both of them to cancer. I started my artistic endeavors through the guidance of my mother, and this is how I got interested in painting celebrities and other notables.

I am a realistic artist, specializing in painting portraits, landscapes, seascapes and animals. My mediums are: pastel, oil, and pencil. Starting with a collection of pictures, I develop a collage in my minds eye, and then pencil it onto paper. I start putting pastels to it, bringing to live skin tone and color to clothing and background. Each work of art can take several hours or days to complete, depending on what I need to add to complete the portrait. Many images are so faded, that I have to research the publicity and movie scene photographs, in order to add the missing detail to it. Sometimes for their hands or clothing a particular star is wearing. Once completed, the pastel portrait is then sprayed with a fixative.

Detail and color is my trademark. I have attended a well known college in Southern California. My work has been shown in galleries, libraries, and law offices across the country and many of my portraits are owned by collectors from around the world. My paintings decorate the homes of celebrities and notables. One of my portraits is part of the California State Capital Building Archives. I have also taught art in college, art stores and hosted my own drawing show on television.

Currently, my work can be viewed at the prestigious Hollywood Wax Museum, in Hollywood, CA. - Right in the heart of where it all began! My web site is www.orlenasart.com, and I am also a member of eBay.
Three of my portraits will appear in a book to be published in 2007.

My work can also be viewed on Ohio Arts Council Registry website, a cooperative effort with the Columbus Metropolitan Library.
